Money is one of the things you can’t live without these days. Some people have achieved financial freedom, and others still struggle along.
In a world that offers so many possibilities, but relies so heavily on money, we’re left to wonder what we would do if it wasn’t.
Here’s what I would do:
Travel
There are dozens of places I’d like to go. I’d stay at the nicest hotels, eat at the finest restaurants, and stay as long as I liked. I’d bring my family with me. My sister has been particularly vocal about her desire to visit India. I’d also bring different friends to different places, and create amazing memories.
Buy The Best Gifts
I’ve always loved getting my friends meaningful gifts. If I had the money, I’d probably spoil them rotten.
When I was younger I read books as often as I breathed. One time I woke up, rolled over, grabbed The Prisoner of Azkaban, and did not leave my bed until I had finished the book several hours later. I’ve read less and less lately, and getting back into it would be awesome.
Constantly Learn Something New
Whether it’s a new sport, a new hobby, how to win at poker, I’d constantly try new things.
Donate to Charities
I have a slightly cynical view of charities. I need to know exactly where the money is going and how it’s going to be used. But if I had the money, I could do the research, donate money, and then spend the time following the inner workings of my chosen charities.
Launch a New Social Media Platform
I have no idea how to do this, but I’d have the money to hire people who do. I think it’d be really cool to start a new business like this that influences people’s lives.
Go on a Road Trip
While I would for sure spend tons of money on my house, my clothes, a private chef, etc., I’d also just as quickly hop in an RV with a close friend or two and rough it for six months as we toured the country.
Help Out Any Friend that Needed it
Some people will be too prideful to accept my charity, and I can respect that. However, paying for a broke friend’s meal or buying them a shirt they thought was nice as a gift would be subtle and help them out. I have a lot of friends in college and starting new chapters in their lives, so I’d have plenty of opportunities.
I realized half-way through writing this that some of these are possible without a constant flow of money. Some of them do require finances that I do not have, but perhaps one day I will. Until then, I will do what is possible at the moment, and push for the things that could be.
What would you do if money wasn’t a problem?
