I’m not a huge fan of labels. However, for the sake of telling you my story, I will use a few on myself.
In short, I am a:
- Writer/author
- Reader
- Praxis participant
- Southern belle
- Northern
gal - Homeschooler
- Adventurer
- Student
- Teacher
- Risk-taker
- Rule-breaker
- Rule-maker
- Gryffindor
That’s enough to get us started, right?
I was born in Gainesville, Georgia, in February of 2000. Though I only lived in the South until I was eight, I still very much consider myself a southern belle. After that, I lived in New Hampshire, and now I’m in Maine. After Maine, who knows where I’ll go?
When I was very young, I was reluctant to even learn how to read. Though once I had, I devoured every single book I could.
Looking back, I was fairly self-motivated and taught myself what I wanted to learn. For example, my mom never taught me science until I reached high school. She saw me reading books on insects, animals, and plants without being prompted, and quietly let me learn what and how I wanted to.
When I was eleven, I wrote and published my first book. When I was twelve, I wrote and published my second book. Every year afterward, I wrote another novel, though I did not publish again until I was eighteen.
In early 2018, I collaborated with an artist I’d been friends with for years, and we wrote and illustrated our first children’s book. Over the summer, I put together my first non-fiction eBook, based primarily off of posts from my old website.
Even though I am the author of four self-published books, I do not really fit the stereotype. Yes, I consume one to three cups of coffee a day. Yes, I prefer working in my room. Yes, I do have twenty-five notebooks. Yes, I probably have a pen on me. Yes, I love cats.
Okay, maybe I fit the stereotype a little bit.
However, I am not an introvert. I have played numerous sports, most notably skiing, sailing, and tennis. I even became a tennis instructor. I enjoy getting dressed up, going out, and trying new things. I’m constantly trying to learn and master different skills that have nothing to do with creative writing.
I’m not going to college to learn these skills. Join me as I jump straight into my life’s work, without spending another four years at a desk.
