Hobbies are often times overlooked as pointless pastimes. In other scenarios, the dreamers with no real drive or talent abandon their paying jobs in pursuit of their hobbies.
Unless you’re truly willing to put in the work, I’m not suggesting you drop everything to pursue your love for needlepoint. Even if you are willing to put in the work, dropping everything is still not recommended.
Some people get caught up too much in work. They make it their whole
People forget to exercise the muse inside of them. We shove her aside to follow the “right” path or to simply avoid being embarrassed. What if we do create something, and we’re laughed at?
Without our muse, we lose a great deal of what we have to offer the world. Ideas are a dime a dozen, but making them a reality is much more expensive.
If we go to work with nothing but work ethic, then all you’ll be able to do is what you’re told. You’ll be drafted to make other people’s ideas realities. You’ll be a valuable employee because you get everything done on time, but you won’t be indispensable.
Let your muse out on the weekends. Exercise her. Make her help you write a short story, or paint a picture, or mold something out of clay. Knit a scarf, sew a skirt, even something as simple as going for a walk and letting your mind wander can help your creativity breathe. If you can’t think of anything you love doing, do a google search to get ideas.
If you let your creativity flow, you’ll be a better worker. You’ll think of simpler ways to do things, you’ll try a new tactic in a marketing campaign or on a sales call, you’ll have a higher chance of getting a promotion.
So let your muse out, and see what you can create.
