When it comes to working out, I really prefer to stay at home in my apartment, even before Covid locked us all inside our doors.
It’s simpler, less embarrassing for those out of shape, free, cuts out the effort of getting to the gym, and when you’re done, your own shower and kitchen are right there for you to use to wash up and have whatever post-workout snack you enjoy.
Workout videos are free, fun, and effective.
Here are some of my all-time favorite workout videos to do at home.
Leg Workout Videos
Getting lean, strong legs combined with a nice booty are the goals of many girls. I also like them because I find them to be a bit easier and more fun, especially if I’m watching a show while I workout. I am not the biggest fan of jumping, I just like to feel the burn.
Emi Wong has a leg workout on YouTube you can do in bed (or the floor) very easily. It’s only 30 seconds for each side for each workout and it really leaves you sore. It also ends with a stretch.
Do you feel like you don’t have the time or energy to get into a good workout? Here’s a great 5-minute leg workout that’s great for just getting started and still feeling the burn.
Cassey Ho, who runs the Blogilates YouTube channel (and is one of the more famous fitness influencers) created this great 5 minute leg work-out.
Ab Workout Videos
Women also love working their core to get a flat stomach and smaller waist. Remember, getting visible ads means lowering overall body fat, not just working your abs.
Chloe Ting has one of the most famous ab workouts on the internet. Results of this 2-week challenge are plastered all over TikTok if you’re unsure about the effectiveness. It’s only 10 minutes and while it’s most effective when combined with full-body workouts, people have seen results just by doing this.
This is another kind of ab workout made famous by TikTok. It’s very simple, put to music, and is done entirely standing up.
If done correctly, you can really burn calories and feel your abs engaged.
Full Body and Cardio Workout Videos
Cardio is a great way to burn calories in a workout. It doesn’t build much muscle, so it won’t help too much in improving your overall metabolism. Still, it gets your heart rate up and your sweat going.
Here is a video I found from Popsugar involving some modified kick-boxing moves. It focused a lot on the arms and legs, but since it’s a standing workout, it naturally engaged your core as well. This workout also ends with a relaxing and satisfying stretching session.
Do you ever get into one of those moods where music just completely energizes and motivates you to workout and get fit?
MadFit on YouTube has some great song challenge workouts. They are most effective when done on repeat as a circuit, since they are usually only about 3-4 minutes long.
This one is a full-body workout set to Bad Guy by Billie Eilish. It’s a lot of fun and is controlled enough to make it easy to follow along for the first time. MadFit has quite a few song workouts, targeting different parts of the body.
Hopefully you found these suggestions useful and motivating. Just because we’re still in quarantine doesn’t mean we can’t get or stay in shape.
If you need some additional at-home equipment to help you or motivate you to get in shape, here are some options from Amazon:
Try these dumbbells, which include a stand and go from 2 pound weights up to 5 pounds.
Adding ankle weights while doing leg exercises are a great way to add resistance, Especially if you’ve already been doing them for a while and you need an extra challenge. According to the reviews, these aren’t good for intense or vigorous training.
I personally just use the carpet in my home, but if you have hard floors, you’ll likely want to invest in a thick, durable yoga mat.
Finally, one of my favorites has to be the resistance band. It’s perfect for squats and combined with the ankle weights, it’s a killer addition. They’re reasonably priced and can be used for a plethora of different exercises.
If you don’t feel like following along with a video, you can combine the different moves you learn with the equipment to create a perfect, fun routine just for you.
What are some of your favorite workout videos? What are some of your favorite workout moves? What kind of equipment, if any, do you use?
Hopefully this was a good post to jumpstart your health at home. Gyms are overpriced, especially if you can’t go often enough to justify the cost. At home workouts are the perfect alternatives.
